CEO of GCG contributes to a major new publication from UNESCO on the gendered implications of generative AI

GCG Founder and CEO Dr Rachel Adams contributed to a recent publication from UNESCO exploring the gendered impact of large language models (LLMs) and Generative AI technologies. The publication was spearheaded by the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO, and brought together a group of experts on AI and gender from around the world.

The study underscores the need to minimise discriminatory outcomes that are all too often produced by LLMs. The study explores how OpenAI’s GPT-2, ChatGPT and Meta’s Llama 2 persistently perpetuates gender and cultural biases. To combat these biases, the brief asserts that a multi stakeholder approach is needed, with inputs from governments and technology companies, alongside a more equitable and responsible approach to AI development and deployment.
The publication, ‘Challenging systematic prejudices: an investigation into bias against women and girls in large language models’, can be read here.
