Introducing Our 12-Week Online Course: Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics & Policy in Africa

As the world rapidly embraces Artificial Intelligence (AI), the need for responsible governance and ethical considerations becomes more crucial than ever. Recognizing this imperative, we are excited to announce our new 12-week online course, "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics & Policy in Africa."

This course is a collaboration between the University of Cape Town’s EthicsLab and the African Observatory on Responsible Artificial Intelligence, a flagship project of the Global Center on AI Governance. It aims to address the unique challenges and opportunities of AI governance within the African context.

Course Overview:

Our course delves into the intersection of law, policy, and ideology surrounding AI development. It is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and critically engage with:

  • African Policy and Ethical Considerations on AI: Explore the current landscape of AI governance in Africa, including policy frameworks and ethical debates specific to the region.

  • African Ethical Principles from AI Governance and Standards: Gain insights into the ethical principles that should guide AI development and application in Africa, informed by local contexts and values.

  • Social, Ethical, and Discriminatory Impacts of AI: Examine how AI technologies can affect societies, with a focus on addressing and mitigating issues of discrimination and inequality.

  • African AI Governance and Regulation: Understand the regulatory approaches being adopted across the continent to manage AI technologies and ensure they align with ethical standards.

Entry requirements: Bachelors Degree

  • Duration: 12 weeks

  • Fee: R 6000 per participant
